Charging Mode 2 (Mode 2)

Information

Definition

Charging Mode 2 uses a standard AC socket-outlet with an in-cable control and protection device between the supply and the vehicle. It is typically seen in portable charging leads rather than fixed charge points.

Why it matters

It is useful for understanding portable or emergency charging arrangements, but it is not the normal model for installed UK wallboxes or commercial charge points.
