Definition
Three-phase charging uses a three-phase AC supply and can support higher AC charging rates where the vehicle and charger are compatible. It is normally assessed alongside phase availability, circuit capacity, protective devices, cable sizing and DNO/site constraints.
Why it matters
It is common in commercial and industrial sites and can support 11 kW or 22 kW AC charging in the UK. For UK users, it affects installation cost, available charging power, protective device selection and how easily a site can be expanded.
