Definition
OCPP 1.6 is a widely deployed Open Charge Point Protocol version used for charger-to-backend communication and remote management. It is normally assessed alongside interoperability, supported protocol versions, firmware support and backend compatibility.
Why it matters
It remains common in the UK market and is often a baseline requirement for interoperability, monitoring, transactions and smart charging support. For UK users, it affects day-to-day operation, supportability, data access, interoperability and the long-term usefulness of the charger.
