EVA England launches UK-wide driver survey on EV charging and policy

EVA England has launched its annual UK-wide driver survey, asking electric, hybrid, petrol and diesel drivers to share their views on charging, vehicle affordability, taxation and the wider shift to electric cars.

The survey opened on 26 August and runs until 16 September 2026. EVA England says the findings will be shared with policymakers, industry stakeholders and the public to provide a clearer picture of the barriers and opportunities facing drivers across the UK.

Survey extends beyond existing EV drivers

The survey is being promoted across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland with support from EVA Cymru, EVA Northern Ireland and EVA Scotland. EVA England is deliberately seeking responses from drivers who already use an EV as well as people considering a switch, hybrid drivers and those who currently have no intention of moving away from petrol or diesel.

That wider sample should make the eventual findings more useful than a survey limited to existing EV owners. For charging infrastructure in particular, the responses could help distinguish between problems experienced by current users and concerns that may be preventing other drivers from switching.

Charging, costs and taxation are central themes

EVA England says the survey covers the cost and reliability of public charging, affordability, taxation and the practicalities of moving to an electric vehicle. It also seeks feedback from disabled drivers, for whom access to suitable charging infrastructure can present additional challenges.

The timing is notable because the UK Government is reviewing the future trajectory of the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate, while electric vehicles will also be brought into the new eVED tax regime from 2028. The survey therefore gives EVA England a current evidence base to use in discussions over charging policy, taxation and EV adoption.

EVA England says last year’s survey found that 66% of petrol and diesel drivers were actively considering an EV. It also says previous survey findings supported its campaigning around chargepoint accessibility, home charging for households without driveways and the cost of public charging.
