Temporary traffic management on the A985 is scheduled from 21 September, with the works expected to last around 26 weeks. SP Energy Networks says the underground cable will run between the BESS site and the former Longannet Power Station, where the connection will interface with an overhead-line circuit.
A grid connection is a physical construction project
The scheme is not an EV charging project, but it is a useful reminder of what ‘getting more power from the network’ can mean in practice. Significant electrical connections can require kilometres of cable route, excavations, road traffic management, land access, civil engineering and substation or transmission-interface work before the new capacity can be energised.
Those same physical constraints increasingly matter to large charging developments. A multi-megawatt HPC or electric-truck hub may be designed around high-power chargers, but its delivery programme can ultimately be governed by the route and construction programme for the electrical connection rather than the EVSE installation itself.
Charging projects need to treat grid works as core infrastructure
At smaller sites, charger procurement can dominate the visible project. At higher powers, the connection can become a separate infrastructure programme with its own permissions, contractors, traffic impacts and timetable.
