Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL Open Joint Innovation Lab in Shenzhen

Shell Recharge and Chinese power electronics manufacturer SINEXCEL formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding and inaugurated a joint innovation laboratory in Shenzhen on 16 June 2026, bringing together Shell's global charging network expertise with SINEXCEL's hardware development capabilities in a facility designed to accelerate next-generation charging technology.

The agreement was signed by Evan Li, Chief Engineer of Shell E-Mobility China, and Kecheng Guo, General Manager of SINEXCEL’s EV Charging Solutions. The laboratory will focus on five technology domains: next-generation ultra-fast charging systems; cloud-to-charger energy scheduling and management; integrated solar, storage and charging solutions; megawatt charging for commercial and heavy-duty vehicles; and AI-driven operation and maintenance tools including predictive monitoring.

The partnership is built around a complementary set of capabilities. SINEXCEL brings power electronics hardware expertise – the company has deployed over 2,000 megawatt charging stations globally, received Frost & Sullivan recognition for its ultra-fast and megawatt charging innovations in 2025, and has developed a 1.28MW distributed charging system for European markets that it claims achieves 96.2% efficiency. Shell Recharge contributes its global operational footprint, real-world deployment data across multiple markets, and the ability to scale proven technologies through its site estate and partner networks.

The inclusion of megawatt charging in the laboratory’s technical scope reflects growing commercial urgency around heavy-duty fleet electrification. As trucks, buses and other large commercial vehicles increasingly shift to electric drivetrains, the charging infrastructure needed to support them – with power levels above 1MW and session times short enough to remain commercially viable – is becoming a strategic priority for operators and manufacturers alike.

The Shenzhen lab is the latest in a series of moves by Shell Recharge to extend its platform reach. In April 2026, Shell Recharge was integrated into the My BMW and MINI apps in Canada, making it accessible through a single account alongside other major Canadian networks. Shell has also been investing in the materials science underlying faster charging, including an all-in-one EV powertrain and battery coolant designed to reduce system complexity and cost for high-speed charging applications.

For SINEXCEL, the partnership provides access to real-world deployment environments across multiple markets – a valuable asset when moving from laboratory performance to commercial-scale proof of concept. Shenzhen, as the global centre of power electronics manufacturing, is a logical location for a facility that aims to move quickly from R&D to hardware production.
