The permanent traffic order was published on 20 August and comes into operation on 21 August 2026. It removes the maximum stay between 20:00 and 08:00 while an EV is actively charging.

Longer dwell time better matches the charging provision

Larkhall Square has two EV parking spaces served by 22 kW Type 2 charging provision.

The previous four-hour limit restricted how long local residents could leave a vehicle connected overnight. Removing it allows the bays to be used for a full overnight charging window, which is more consistent with the role of AC charging in an area where some households do not have off-street parking.

Actual charging power will still depend on the vehicle’s onboard AC charger, so not every vehicle connected to a 22 kW charge point will draw 22 kW.

The change is small in network terms, but it illustrates how parking rules and charger power need to be considered together. A suitable charger can still be poorly matched to its intended use if the permitted dwell time is too short.
