Definition
Randomised delay is a smart charging function that delays charging by a random period to reduce simultaneous demand spikes. It is normally considered alongside charge point management systems, OCPP support, firmware updates, reporting and remote diagnostics.
Why it matters
It is required under UK smart charge point regulations for relevant private charge points and helps protect grid stability. For UK users, it affects whether EV charging can be added without unnecessary supply upgrades or nuisance limitation of other site loads.
