Most 2026 GM EVs still use CCS1 and require an adapter to use compatible NACS fast chargers. The Cadillac Optiq has already moved to a native NACS port for 2026, while the returning Chevrolet Bolt is sold as a 2027 model with NACS.
The transition creates a mixed connector market
For charging operators, the move means the US market will contain a large legacy CCS1 vehicle parc alongside a growing number of vehicles fitted with native NACS, now standardised as SAE J3400.
GM also notes that NACS-native vehicles still require an adapter to use CCS-equipped fast chargers. CPOs therefore need to consider how both connector types will be supported during the transition.
GM is also consolidating charging-network access
GM’s Energy Pass is built into the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac and MyGMC apps and currently supports Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America and ChargePoint, with EVgo due to be added.
GM says some networks are expected to support automatic authentication and payment after an initial activation, reducing the need for drivers to manage separate charging-network accounts.
