AUMOVIO enters charging hardware market with VDO fleet range

AUMOVIO has expanded its commercial-vehicle electrification portfolio into EV charging infrastructure, introducing VDO-branded charging solutions at IAA Transportation.

The company is not presenting the hardware as an isolated EVSE product line. Its stated approach links commercial-vehicle components, charging infrastructure and VDO Fleet so charging and vehicle data can be used together in day-to-day fleet operations.

The range targets commercial depots and operating sites

AUMOVIO says the charging offer is intended for electric trucks, buses and specialist vehicles charging at depots, yards and company locations. Target users include fleet operators, municipal organisations, logistics businesses, bus operators and commercial-vehicle manufacturers.

The launch material describes both AC and DC charging products spanning mobile applications through higher-power fleet systems. It does not publish a complete product-by-product power table, market availability schedule or certification list in the announcement, so those details should not be inferred from the broader portfolio positioning.

VDO Fleet is the differentiator in the launch

The software layer is designed to combine data from vehicles, charging infrastructure and other digital applications. AUMOVIO says operators can use the resulting view to track state of charge, energy consumption, vehicle availability and active charging processes, and to understand which vehicles are ready for service or need charging before their next duty.

That is a different route to market from selling charge points first and adding fleet software later. VDO is already established in commercial-vehicle fleet technology, so AUMOVIO can position charging as another controlled part of the fleet-operating system rather than a standalone electrical asset.

Fleet charging is converging with fleet operations

The practical scheduling question for an electric commercial fleet is increasingly: which vehicle needs what state of charge, when does it leave, which charger can serve it, what will the energy cost and will the vehicle be ready on time? Hardware power alone does not answer those questions.

AUMOVIO’s entry adds another manufacturer to a market moving towards integrated charging, vehicle data and energy management. The next points to watch are the exact VDO hardware models offered in Europe, OCPP and backend interoperability, charger power-sharing capability, service arrangements and whether fleets can use third-party EVSE inside the same VDO Fleet environment.
